Gai & Adrian TV: Golden Slipper Special

The Group 1 Golden Slipper is set to be contested at Rosehill Gardens for the 68th time on Saturday. 'The Slipper' is the world's richest 2YO race worth $5 million and Gai & Adrian have 6 runners in the race plus one emergency.

Gai's Tip Sheet

SATURDAY 23rd MARCH – ROSEHILL GARDENSRail Position: RAIL - +2m EntireSO UNITED (Race 2, 12.50pm, 2400m, T Clark, 53.5kg)So United ran another terrific race in the Canberra Cup two weeks ago. He is a model of consistency and is thriving at present. He hasn’t put a foot wrong since and he is holding his condition extremely well. He maps well in this contest and there doesn’t look to be too much pressure in the race so Tim will be positive from barrier 7 to get into a good rhythm on the speed. He looks tremendous at present and he remains in super shape, so with even luck in running we think it will take a good one to run him down in this valuable contest on one of the biggest carnival days of the year.HOWGOODAREYOU (Race 3, 1.25pm, 1900m, R Bayliss, 54kg)Howgoodareyou ran a terrific race in her last start when stepping up in distance to 1600 metres. She got a little further back in the run than we were anticipating, but she finished with a rattle and wasn’t beaten far at the line. She should relish stepping up in distance to 1900 metres here and we expect the extra distance to bring about further improvement. The tempo of the race should enable her to get into a better rhythm in the early stages and Regan will be positive from the barrier 1 to get her rolling along into a prominent position, on or just behind the speed. She is primed to peak now fourth-up over her optimal distance and we expect her to be doing her best work at the finish.OSMOSE (Race 3, 1.25pm, 1900m, T Clark, 54kg)Osmose ran a super race first-up and frustratingly missed gaining that Group level success that she so desperately deserves. In saying that, it does mean that she therefore doesn't have a penalty here in a race we have been targeting for some time. She hasn’t missed a beat since her last start and remains in super shape. He has had a trip away to the beach this week where she enjoyed stretching her legs in the ocean and having a roll in the sand. She appears to thoroughly enjoy these outings and they look to have the desired effect. She will relish the step-up in distance to 1900 metres here and we expect the extra distance to bring about further improvement. Tim will be positive from barrier 4 to roll forward into the lead, or close to it as there appears to be a fair amount of speed in the race. She looks terrific and we are hopeful that she can strike in this Group 3 contest.KAIZAD (Race 4, 2pm, 1200m, A Hyeronimus, 58.5kg)Kaizad is in great shape ahead of his return on Saturday. He was super last preparation, winning twice and gaining Group 3 level success. We were very pleased with his most recent trial this time in at Warwick Farm and he has been delighting us with his trackwork ahead of this intended assignment. Adam will be positive from barrier 12 to get him rolling along into the lead, or close to it as he’ll be well suited by a genuine end to end gallop. We expect him to continue to improve with the benefit of a run under his belt and as he stretches out over further this preparation. With that said, he is fit enough to do himself justice and we expect him to be competitive for a long way.RED RESISTANCE (Race 4, 2pm, 1200m, A Hyeronimus, 58.5kg)Red Resistance is in excellent order ahead of Saturday’s contest. He was too fresh first-up and set a ferocious speed in-front, which he ultimately paid the price for late in the run. To his credit he battled on gamely under pressure and wasn’t beaten far at the line. We have added the pre-race ear muffs, he will have a stallion chain on in the yard and we may use a pony all to keep his energy levels down. He has taken nice improvement in his track work since his first up run and he looks terrific ahead of this contest. He is open to plenty of improvement second-up here and Nash will be positive from barrier 11 to try and take luck out of the equation. He’s a quality colt and he’ll give them all something to catch in this contest.THE NOVELIST (Race 4, 2pm, 1200m, T Clark, 58.5kg)The Novelist is in fantastic shape ahead of his return on Saturday. He was brilliant last preparation winning impressively on two occasions and is firing on all cylinders ahead of this intended assignment. We have been extremely pleased with his two trials this time in at Warwick Farm and his sectionals have been fantastic. These trials have given him a good fitness foundation and he has been delighting us with his trackwork ahead of this intended assignment. He has the gate speed to overcome his wide draw in barrier 13 and Tim will be positive from there get him rolling along in a prominent position. We expect him to continue to improve with the benefit of a run under his belt after this long layoff, but with that said he is sharp enough to do himself justice and he will be doing his best work through the line.MILITARY MISSION (Race 5, 2.35pm, 2000m, A Hyeronimus, 59kg)Military Mission made an excellent return first-up at Randwick two weeks ago and we were delighted with the way that he attacked the line. It was a terrific effort under a big weight and he has taken another step forward in his track work since. We were very pleased with his gallop in the lead up to this intended assignment and he is a picture of health at present. It's going to be a small field in this very rich contest and we feel that it is a better lead up to the Tancred the following week should we choose to go that way. Even a placing here would be a terrific result moving forward, though we are hopeful he can challenge the best of them. He is open to plenty of improvement second-up here and we expect another bold performance in this Group 1 contest.GANBARE (Race 6, 3.15pm, 2000m, T Clark, 56.5kg)Ganbare has been running much better than his finishing positions would suggest on paper in his first two starts this preparation over trips short of her best. The tempo of the race against those specialist sprinter milers just had him out of his comfort zone at the top of the straight in his most recent outing at Randwick, but he battled on tenaciously down the straight and he wasn’t beaten far at the line. The 2000 metres here will enable him to get into a much better rhythm and Tim will be positive from barrier 4 to roll forward and try and take luck out of the equation. There doesn’t look to be too much pressure in the race so he should hopefully be able to get into a good rhythm on the pace. This looks a competitive race on paper, but we expect to see another step forward over this trip and we expect him to be fighting out the finish.FULLY LIT (Race 8, 4.40pm, 1200m, S Clipperton, 56.5kg)Fully Lit ran another gallant race in the Group 3 Black Opal two weeks ago. It wasn’t the result we were looking for, but he ran another fantastic race and wasn’t beaten far at the line. He was going four weeks between runs in that contest and is entitled to take another step forward on Saturday. He might be small in stature, but he’s got an excellent attitude and a fierce will to win which will take him a long way. He’s a terrific eater and is a picture of health ahead of this contest. This looks to be a very strong renewal, but he doesn’t know how to disappoint and we expect him to give another bold show here.LADY OF CAMELOT (Race 8, 4.40pm, 1200m, B Shinn, 54.5kg)Lady Of Camelot is thriving and looks in super shape ahead of Saturday’s contest. She ran a terrific race to finish second in the Group 1 Blue Diamond four weeks ago and the form of that race is already working out well with three horses from the field winning since. Her most recent trial was fantastic, and she quickened through the line very impressively to win her heat in dominant fashion. Her sectionals were extremely pleasing and she hasn’t missed a beat since. She has drawn well in barrier 5 and is firing on all cylinders at present. We can't wait to see her in action again and with even luck in running we expect her to be fighting out finish.PROST (Race 8, 4.40pm, 1200m, A Hyeronimus, 56.5kg)Prost ran an excellent race in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes in his last start three weeks ago. He has taken nice improvement in his trackwork since and looks terrific ahead of this Group 1 contest. He is open to plenty of improvement in only his fourth racecourse appearance on Saturday and the race maps to be a high pressure contest which should suit him down to the ground. Adam will be positive from barrier 11 to get him into a position where he can get into a comfortable rhythm. This looks a very competitive renewal on paper, but he’s a quality colt and he will be doing his best wok through the line.SHANGRI LA EXPRESS (Race 8, 4.40pm, 1200m, R Bayliss, 56.5kg)Shangri La Express ran another terrific race in the Group 2 Todman Stakes two weeks ago. He hasn’t put a foot wrong in his four career starts to date and appears to have taken nice improvement from his most recent outing. He looks ready to peak third-up in this grand final on Saturday and we are delighted with how he has been training into the race. He has proven that he’s right up there with the best of them from his generation and we expect him to give another bold show in this contest. Regan will be positive from barrier 3 to roll forward and find a position where he can get into nice rhythm. He looks terrific and we expect him to be doing his best work at the finish.STORM BOY (Race 8, 4.40pm, 1200m, R Moore, 56.5kg) Strom Boy is in tremendous shape ahead of Saturday’s prestigious Group 1 contest. He was excellent in last week’s exhibition gallop on the Kensington track, and we were delighted with the way that he attacked the line. He hasn’t missed a beat since and he is thriving ahead of his grand final. Ryan Moore is as professional as they come, and he visited Randwick to canter you colt on Thursday morning. He reported that he was delighted with his action and can't wait to get onboard him in Saturday's contest. Storm Boy is a strong and robust colt who currently sets the standard amongst his generation thus far, and with even luck in running he should be hard to beat.STRAIGHT CHARGE (Race 8, 4.40pm, 1200m, T Clark, 56.5kg)Straight Charge is in super shape ahead of his grand final on Saturday. He ran another excellent race in the Group 2 Todman Stakes two weeks ago and hasn’t missed a beat since. He received significant pace pressure in the middle stages of the race on that occasion and this extra effort just told late in the finish. With that said, he wasn’t beaten far at the line and battled gamely under pressure. He returns to Rosehill for his Grand Final tomorrow, which is a track that we know he enjoys after his scintillating win in the Group 2 Silver Slipper. There has been some rain around this week in Sydney and softer underfoot ground conditions on Saturday could play to his advantage. He’s a quality colt and we expect him to be fighting out the finish.SATURDAY 23rd MARCH – MOONEE VALLEYRail Position: RAIL - True Entire CircuitYARRAWONGA (Race 3, 1.05pm, 2500m, L Beuzelin, 59kg)Yarrawonga was disappointing in his last start and was never travelling with his usual fluency. We feel you can put a line through that performance, as prior to that he hadn’t put a foot wrong so far this preparation and sometimes it can take horses a couple of starts to adapt to the ‘Melbourne way’ of racing. We were pleased with his gallop on Tuesday morning at Moonee Valley and he appeared to have learnt from his first start over the course, and adapted well to the tight turning nature of the track on this visit. Winona will look to roll forward from barrier 4 and try to control the tempo of the race to suit herself from the front. As you would expect, this looks a competitive race on paper but he’s as tough as old boots and we expect him to be challenging at the finish.FOR VALOUR (Race 4, 1.40pm, 1500m, W Costin, 58kg)For Valour ran an encouraging race first-up over a trip short of his best. He battled gamely under pressure and wasn’t beaten far at the line. He has taken another step forward in his track work since and appears to be sharper and tighter in condition. We were delighted with his gallop in the lead up to the race and he looks fantastic at present. He will relish the step up in distance to 1500 metres here and Winona will look to roll forward from barrier 6 to try and set the fractions to suit herself from the front. He’s open to plenty of improvement second-up in this contest and we expect him to be challenging at the finish.JON BON (Race 7, 3.35pm, 2040m, L Beuzelin, 57kg)Jon Bon gave us all such a huge thrill when winning in tenacious style at Hawkesbury two weeks ago. He was there to be shot at in the home straight and he had several determined challengers in pursuit, but he showed a terrific attitude and he simply wouldn’t be denied. He’s come through the run in wonderful order and has settled in extremely well to our Flemington stable. He has a wide draw in barrier 11 to overcome, but we know he’s got good gate speed, so we expect him to roll forward to make his own luck in a prominent position, on or just behind the speed. He’s rises in grade significantly here taking on seasoned Group level performers in this contest, but he’s open to plenty of improvement fourth-up and with even luck in running we are hopeful that he will be competitive for a long way.PLATINUM JUBILEE (Race 9, 4.55pm, 1200m, W Costin, 58.5kg)Platinum Jubilee is delighting us ahead of her reappearance. She was two excellent trials under her belt this time in at Randwick, and she quickened through the line very impressively to win her heat in her most recent outing. Her sectionals were super and she hasn’t missed a beat since. She has settled into our Flemington stable extremely well since her arrival and looks terrific ahead of this intended assignment. We were delighted with her gallop in the lead up to the race and she is firing on all cylinders ahead of Saturday. She has the gate speed to overcome her wide barrier and all going to plan maps to gain a prominent position, on or just behind the speed. It's also worth noting that with scratchings, due to emergencies, she will come in to barrier 13 or 14. As you would expect, this looks a competitive race on paper but she’s a speed filly and with even luck in running we expect her to be fighting out the finish.

RSVP: Tulloch Lodge Yearling Parade at Evergreen Stud

Our not to be missed annual Tulloch Lodge Yearling Parade is set for Friday 8th March at 11am followed by 1pm lunch at Merewether Surfhouse.

This is a great opportunity to meet first hand the Magic Millions, Karaka and Classic yearlings we have shares available in, with Adrian, our bloodstock team and our breaker Johnny Butler on hand to talk through each of them.

Last year at the corresponding event we paraded eight yearlings for existing owners:

  1. STORM BOY (Justify x Pelican) - $3m Magic Millions winner and current Group 1 Golden Slipper favourite
  2. SHANGRI LA EXPRESS (Alabama Express x Sent From Above) - winner of the $1m Golden Gift and Kirkham Stakes and third favourite for the Group 1 Golden Slipper
  3. SHIVERMEPINK (Zoustar x Pretty In Pink) - Close second to Too Darn Lizzie in a trial a week ago, will trial again before racing in the Autumn.
  4. SHANGRI LA SPRING (Castelvecchio x Opportunity)- looked sharp in his jump-outs before a spell. Returns to the stable with a view to racing through the back end of the Autumn and Winter.
  5. I AM A ROCKSTAR (Fastnet Rock x I Am A Star) - trialled for the first time with a nice 2nd placing a fortnight ago. He has since been spelled. A horse to follow, looks progressive.
  6. CAPITALIST X ESPAANIYAH colt - he had a set back in January. Showed good speed before that. Returns to work in the Autumn.
  7. PARIS TYCOON (Written Tycoon x Paris Match) - jumped out last preparation before a spell. Returns to work later this month. Expect to see more of her this preparation.
  8. INVINCIBLE DUCHESS (I Am Invincible x Ben's Duchess) - returns to work later this month. Has been well educated, just physically has not been ready to trial in earlier preparations.

As you can see, attending this parade can be very worthwhile, and the group of 8 are still relatively unexposed so who knows what other race wins we can add to the CVs of these current 2YOs over the next 12 months.
