| Denise, Greg and I struck gold at the Perth Magic Millions yearling sales purchasing lot 165 - Fastnet Rock/Munchie. This colt had everything I look for in a yearling by this sire - big, loose framed and moves freely. Out of a young mare and a highly fashionable sire he was marked highest of the horses we had inspected. Denise, Greg and I had looked at them on the morning of the sale which started at 5pm the next day. Most importantly he had passed the x-ray with flying colours. I am constantly amazed how many of the attractively bred, high priced yearlings have major x-ray issues. This year the brief has been - I don't want to wait 4-6 months to break my yearlings in and have gone back to the days of TJ when all our 2yo's were broken in directly after the sales. On to the breakers they would go and on the track they would be within a week of being purchased. That's why TJ dominated the 2yo races and the Golden Slipper. Best of the morning was Atelier for young Ben Looker. This son of Redoute's Choice will have his 2nd trial next Tuesday. 2yo Mutamayez - Encosta de Lago/Show Dancing appears to be one with plenty of talent and he is due to trial in two weeks. I'm heading back to my beloved Sydney tonight only to catch the 6am to Auckland on Saturday morning. |
