| The track was sealed this morning and the trainers appreciated that. Blake was over the moon with Manhattan Rain and Steve felt More Joyous was just that. Above Perfection Neil said was glorious and Princess Quality indicated she is back to her best with an easy piece of work on the B Grass. The Elusive Quality mare has been sidelined with a bruised hoof but has turned the corner over the last few days and will trial at Warwick Farm on Monday. Montana Flyer always looks as big as a house and her fitness and condition can always look quite deceptive but she continues to please and is on target for the 1200m G2 Breeders Classic at Randwick on February 13th. Dee Bee Nine won very strongly at Kembla Grange last Saturday and has come through the run well and will now contest the C1 1400m on Saturday week. Rock Kingdom will be extremely competitive when he contests the G2 Apollo as will his stablemate Theseo, who continues to get fitter as the weeks progress. Interesting to see I was not the only trainer to complain bitterly about some of my horses being balloted out of the trials at Warwick Farm next Monday. I wrote to acting CEO Darren Pearce and told him that balloting out these horses could disrupt their Autumn carnival preparations and this matter should be taken more seriously. Grahame Begg ran Darren and voiced the same concern. My 12 that were balloted out at Warwick Farm I am taking to Hawkesbury to trial on the same day. I was shocked to be told this morning that the Hawkesbury race meeting was called off after two and a quarter inches of rain fell on the track in just 40 minutes. It would have been nice to have seen the race meeting go ahead and it was a strange decision the meeting was called off so early. Dave Meijer and I have worked together for a long time and I'm a great admirer of this supreme athlete who has been clocking up the miles preparing for a marathon run in Rotarua, New Zealand. Dave last week clocked up 180k running round Sydney; no wonder the likes of More Joyous and his other charges win so many races! The barrier boys continue to work steadily with the horses. Ken is a quite achiever who goes about his task in a very methodical way. With Graham and Heath plus the riders and Steve Dennett overseeing the job, Ken is hoping to leave for home in the next fourteen days. Been remiss of me but I had promised a lovely young lady called Jody Gray of Rangeview Rugs whom I met whilst in Perth, that I would write something about their beautiful leather catalogue covers in the blog. Rob and Jody from Rangeview stud along with Mikala, Keri, Belinda and Mark had the grooviest covered catalogues in all different colours of purple, blue, green and pink skin buffalo hide. I would like to offer my condolences to the owners, strappers and others involved in the spirited filly Horizons. I am an owner of a horse who raced side by side with her, as arch rivals, in her first two seasons. I watched her barrier trial as Horizons and Our Joan of Arc trialed for the first time on the same day, as beautiful talented eager young 2yolds, and then followed a fantastic competition as arch rivals in their first two seasons against each other, both bombing in the Slipper together. As much as I would always have liked to win, my experience of racing would not be the same without the appreciation of such a competitor, who at her peak, could not be beaten. I feel like I have lost a member of a racing family, and I am devastated, for her loss. Racing is now not the same for me, I understand and feel for all of those who knew her.
